When I get to know about my pregnancy, first month was already over. It was winter’s time. Me and my husband are soup lovers. So I used to have soup every day with normal healthy food. Luckily there was no sign of morning sickness so I was able to have soups, vegetable juices, my favourite sarso ka saag and other healthy and unhealthy food like idli, upma, dosa, uttapam, pav bhaji etc. I was so happy as there was no sign of morning sickness. As the time progresses, I suffered from nausea, morning sickness which is very Common in every pregnancy. It became problem when, I was unable to had anything. I was even admitted to hospital for two days as I suffered from dehydration. Luckily after that I able to have something.

Pregnancy

As per every one and every doctor, first three months are very critical. Doctor suggested me to have anything which you feel to have or can digest easily. You won’t believe I had only MTR Uttapam in every meal, it continues till the end of 3 months. I took good care and preferred work from home.

After that I followed normal healthy diet. My doc suggested me to have something in interval of every two hours. I religiously followed it. I used to have healthy things after every two hours. I tried to avoid unhealthy items in snack time after 3 months (bread, biscuits and namkeen). During fourth Month I liked to have the poha every day in the breakfast, although it’s not that much healthy. I always picked something healthy to eat. Whenever I was in office I preferred sub-way, shikanji, fruits and juice in snack time and homemade food in lunch and breakfast. It was not easy to prepare 4-5 meals in the morning. I’ve tried to avoid junk food.

It is not like that I did not have junk food during entire pregnancy. I am a food lover. There were cheat days too when I had my fav Pasta, pizza, subway, Noodles from haldirams without ajinomoto and Thai food. But I always made sure I don’t eat junk food fully, I eat in small quantity followed by any healthy food. I tried to have two fruits daily apple and pomegranate as they are rich in nutrition. Let me tell you I really don’t like fruit, I had them just because of my baby. 2017 is the year in which I had maximum fruits in my life.

Even after following healthy diet, at starting of 7th month Doc told me baby weight is not good, she asked me to introduce besan (gram flour) and moong dal which I did not included in my diet. I was not aware that besan and moong dal plays important role in gaining baby weight. After that I followed and that helped me to gain my baby weight. I also joined a session of diet and yoga arranged by my doctor. About diet she instructed the same whatever I followed as per my doc. She taught some yoga but let me tell you I did not do yoga earlier so I was not confidence to perform it during pregnancy. Like every other pregnant woman, I was more worried about my baby.

As the time progresses during eight months when I have less energy and could not spend much time on cooking, I started to eat vegetable Dalia (Palak or other vegetables) which are available at home and moong Chilka daal with hing jeera tadka which you can make in 20mins only. During eight months or till mid of ninth months I used to have vegetable Dalia in breakfast and moong dal in evening snacks. In last I had some junk food which I cannot have after baby due to lactation reasons (selfish mom to be).

I had avoided tea and coffee completely during my pregnancy. I had avoided sweets, chocolates and ice creams due to their high sugar content, it is required to maintain blood sugar level during pregnancy. Blood sugar is likely to increase during pregnancy which is very common. Nothing to worry about it, only you need to maintain it. Luckily I maintained it through my diet, my husband helped me to achieve it. He also sacrificed a lot. Even though I don’t have sweet tooth but still whenever I felt to have it, my husband made sure I don’t have it more often. I used to have ice-cream or pastries once in a month.

I tried to go on walk every day once 3 months completed be it for 10mins, 20mins or 1 hour all depends on the stamina. When I started Work from home I started morning walk too. I just want to add I was active throughout my pregnancy but I never bend due to fear which is completely okay everyone is different. I always asked someone to give things which I could not pick or bend with the help of knees.

Pregnancy is a beautiful time in which you feel to care for yourself. Love it and live it fully. As the time progresses you used to of it and start enjoying this beautiful phase.Eat whatever you feel to have and eat also which is really required during pregnancy sometimes we have to go beyond of our wishes to get the fruitful results.

I used to eat a lot but healthy food, I think due to this I did not gain much weight during my pregnancy. Let me tell you I am not the person who can eat anything without fear of weight gain, I need to take care of my weight always. I had cared for my weight in pregnancy too as it is very much required for healthy pregnancy. Doc also suggested that, she never said increase your weight. As per me eating healthy items every 2 hours helped me to maintain the weight. I’ve gained only 10-12 kg during entire pregnancy. I delivered healthy baby girl with healthy weight before 2 weeks of due date, as baby was big as per doctor. There was a time when doc said baby growth is not good and there was also a time when doctor said your baby is big. So don’t worry, just keep trust in god and follow your doctor. Everyone has different pregnancy; I’ve shared my experience.  I am summarising all the healthy vegetarian food items I had.

Pomegranate juice and 1 big bowl of Moong chilka dal with heeng(asafetida) jeera (cumin seeds) tadka in evening snacks (let me tell you I did not like this dal, I eat it because it has several benefits it helps in lactation so for the sake of my baby I had it, secondly it helps to manage baby weight and my weight, third cooked in max 20 mins, and last one it’s very nutritious).
  5. 2 chapattis, any sabji (lauki, tori, aaloo, bhindi) or south Indian food.
  6. Milk once in a day with protein powder.
